Kickstarter Pay Off: Titanium Pen

This might be the last pen I ever have to buy.

I’m actually a little surprised at myself for not mentioning this earlier. This is the second item I’ve gotten from Kickstarter, and while I like my Pebble watch, this has been the superior purchase.

For me, this pen represents everything good “design” should be. It is well made (and made from titanium at that) and well designed. In my opinion, it can sit on any table next to a Mont Blanc and hold its own. But besides looking great, it also provides a ton of utility.

*Gets up on soapbox* For me, design, factoring only aesthetics, is bad art. What makes design so powerful and amazing (and challenging) is the combination of utility and aesthetics to deliver a product that not only provides value, but also provides beauty.

For me, this pen:

• Looks Great
  Flat black is probably the best looking thing in world
• Has Incredible Utility
  The pen accepts 40+ different kinds of refills from almost every available producer
• Solves problems (for me anyway)
  (A twofer) At long last, it allows me to have a respectable looking pen that has blue ink, and at the same time, a full-sized stylus for my phone/tablet

In fact, my only complaint is that is a little heavy. Luckily, Big i Design has created the aluminum pen that is purportedly 35% lighter. So if anyone is shopping for a gift for me…
