The power of Mass Media is it’s subtle pervasiveness. It has the ability to quietly inundate and influence every aspect of our lives without disturbing even the slightest neuron of concern or awareness in our brains.
Ran across this article on Kotaku the other day and it made me pause. As I read the article and commentary from the late Bob Wakelin on his career and contributions to the world of video games, I was suddenly made aware. I was struck in awe of how both the games, and more importantly, their idealistic (and often deceitful) artistic interpretations, via covers and packaging, molded so many of my ideas, expectations, and inspirations.
From ideas of masculinity to my sense of custom typography, artists just like Bob Wakelin were instrumental in my growth as a person, and as a designer.
I would encourage you to take a moment to view a few of his works on Exotica. He will be greatly missed.
