Glue-A-Shoe Competition

In Life, there’s “winning” and then there’s winning. The first is something people say when they feel like they are “winning at Life”. This translates to stuff like having a good job and achieving goals, blah, blah, blah. The other is what actually happens when you have a blue ribbon, cash money in-hand, and the indescribable sense of Superiority that comes with being the best of the best.

We’re talking about the second kind here.

In a not too distant past, a much skinnier me entered the Texas State Fair Glue-A-Shoe competition. The goal was to decorate a shoe, boot, loafer, or sandal around a theme of your choosing. While the cash prize only covered the entry fee, the crown, title, and gloating privileges are all things I hold aloft, even to this day.
